VUE was founded in 2014 as something that didn't exist in Canada before: a vision therapy clinic that integrates clinical care and ongoing research into a single practice, tracking outcomes on every patient to understand what works and why.

VUE Vision Therapy was founded in Guelph, Ontario in 2014 as Canada's first clinical translational research model for vision therapy — a practice designed from the ground up to connect research findings directly to patient care.
The founding insight was straightforward: most children struggling in school had never received a thorough evaluation of how their visual system actually works. A routine eye exam measures acuity. It rarely measures vergence facility, accommodative function, oculomotor control, or visual information processing — the visual skills that support reading and learning.
From the beginning, VUE's clinical protocol tracked outcome data on every patient. That research has been funded in part by the Canadian Government through SR&ED grants and has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences.
Today, VUE operates two clinic locations — Guelph and North York — serving families across Ontario. The clinical team holds post-graduate training in rehabilitative vision therapy and a special interest in visually inefficient learners.

VUE's clinical work is grounded in a body of research that most vision therapy practices cannot point to — conducted within our clinic network, in collaboration with the University of Waterloo, and funded in part by the Canadian Government.

Dr. Daniel J. Cunningham

Dr. Cunningham leads patient care at both VUE locations and has a special interest in visually inefficient learners. His clinical philosophy insists on evidence over assumption — he recommends vision therapy only when the assessment supports it. Co-author of published clinical research presented at COVD in collaboration with the University of Waterloo.

Dr. Carrie Murphy

Dr. Murphy has a special interest in visually inefficient learners facing overwhelming visual workloads. Known for her warm approach that puts children at ease, she oversees VUE's therapy training and quality control. After 13 years of practice in the United States, she returned to Ontario in 2021.

VUE's founding clinician and author of Learning to See = Seeing to Learn. An internationally recognized researcher, Dr. Quaid built VUE as Canada's first clinical translational research model for vision therapy. He continues to contribute to VUE's research foundation in his role at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry & Vision Science.

Stephanie brings a background in Applied Human Sciences and a personal connection to vision challenges to her role at VUE. As Practice Integrator, she ensures every family feels supported from their first call to their final session — and that the business runs in a way that allows the clinical team to do their best work.

Mandy Sanmiya
Mandy joined VUE in 2018 after vision therapy transformed her own family. As Director of Operations and Patient Educator, she manages both clinic locations and translates complex clinical findings into language every family can clearly understand. Her personal experience gives her a perspective no credential can replicate.
